Studentships & Pilot Projects
The Alberta Diabetes Foundation (ADF), in addition to helping build the new Alberta Diabetes Institute (ADI) at the University of Alberta with a 10 million dollar pledge, is also supporting research projects to help find a cure for Diabetes. In 2010 ADF will be funding the following studentships and pilot projects.

Dr. David Wright – Apelin and skeletal muscle insulin action: A potential novel treatment modality for type 2 diabetes
Dr. John Elliott – Establishing NOD ES cells to generate HLA-DQ8 transgenic knock-in NOD mice
Dr. Diane Mager – How does meal pattern influence post-prandial lipid metabolism in obese children
Dr. Catherine Field – Profiling the immune system in obese insulin-resistant patients and comparing this to age-sex and BMI-mated subjects without insulin resistance
Dr. Normand Boule – Exercise and intra-abdominal fat in type 2 diabetes
